One of the least important, least remembered presidents, John Tyler's greatest claim to fame is for being the first president not to be elected to office, succeeding hero of the War of 1812, William Henry Harrison, when he died 30 days after becoming president.
This is a reproduction of actual Indian Peace Medals made by the United States Mint that were given out to Indian chiefs by American representatives, starting with Lewis & Clark and continuing until Andrew Johnson when they simply became Presidential Medals. The medals would bear the face of the current President and then be replaced by the incumbent and so on.
