Antique "Champlain's Map of New France 1632" 1850 Facsimile
A lovely antique paper facsimilie of "Champlain's Map of New France 1632" engraved by R.H. Pease, printed in Albany, New York in 1850. As stated in the title, this is a reproduction of a very famous map of Samuel de Champlain made in 1632.
This map is reduced in size, drawn by David Vaughan, and engraved by Augustus Tolle by order of Christopher Morgan, Secretary of State of New York for a Documentary History of New York, Volume 3. This map is important to the history of New York as it includes the first delineation of New York City on a printed map.
The map itself is a real work of art with incredible illustrations including ships and various aquatic beasts. This particular copy is in pretty nice condition for its age, with some foxing, and creases from folding. A slight tear on its left side but otherwise pretty intact. An incredible piece of history.
Approximately 18 x 11 5/8"
