Antique 1924 Dunhill Shell Briar 39/24 estate pipe in nice condition. This magnificent 102-year-old "Patent Era" piece features Dunhill’s classic Shape 39 Bent Billiard profile and bears a highly collectible "EX" stamping. As documented by Dunhill historian John C. Loring, a standalone "EX" on a patent-era pipe signifies "Exchange," indicating this piece was a factory-authorized replacement issued under Dunhill's historic one-year warranty program. Uncovered as part of a single-owner estate collection, it has remained in the same location since its original mid-20th-century acquisition. The pipe boasts a deeply craggy black sandblast finish with all nomenclature incredibly crisp and legible—including the clear 39/24 date stamp and dual 1130806/15 & 341418/20 patent markings. Crucially, the pipe retains its original vulcanite stem featuring Dunhill's iconic, authentic inlaid "White Spot" intact.
It has not been cleaned. There is still tobacco/ash residue in it. Some chipping along top of bowl. This is a true "player's pipe"—an investment-grade 1920s patent-era Dunhill.
