Up for auction is a historic, highly collectible 1924 Dunhill Shell Briar (Shape 12) estate pipe. This centenary "Double Patent" piece features the iconic deeply sandblasted finish introduced by Dunhill in the early days of the company. It represents an incredible opportunity for a collector to own a piece of 1920s Dunhill history as a wonderful, everyday smoker at an accessible price point.
(PLEASE READ)
The shank features an antique, American-made solid sterling silver replacement band. It is stamped with the maker's mark "XRA", "STERLING", and classic early 20th-century faux hallmarks (Anchor, Lion, Star) commonly used by US jewelers of the era. There is a visible hairline crack running along the briar underneath the band. The vintage sterling band has completely stabilized this crack, ensuring the pipe remains structurally sound and airtight for smoking.
It has not been cleaned. There is still tobacco/ash residue in it. This is a true "player's pipe"—an investment-grade 1920s patent-era Dunhill stummel that has been preserved with a charming, historic repair.
