Henry Mosler (1841-1920) was an American artist born in Germany, growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio. During the Civil War, he served as an illustrator for Harper's Weekly depicting scenes of battle. Well-recognized in his own time, Mosler won a medal at the Royal Academy and exhibited at many popular shows of the time, where he won other prestigious awards, such as a gold medal at the Salon of 1888 and a silver medal at the Paris Exposition of 1889. His works can now be found at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Huntington Library, The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, among many others.
