Best known for his aggressive expansionist actions including instigating the Mexican-American War leading to the Mexican Cession, and annexing Texas and Oregon. James Polk was the 11th President of the United States.
This is a reproduction of actual Indian Peace Medals made by the United States Mint that were given out to Indian chiefs by American representatives, starting with Lewis & Clark and continuing until Andrew Johnson when they simply became Presidential Medals. The medals would bear the face of the current President and then be replaced by the incumbent and so on.
