Beautiful .999+ pure silver medallion of John Marshall, minted by the Medallic Art Company of New York in 1965 as part of the Hall of Fame for Great Americans at NYU.

Inaugurated in 1900, the Hall of Fame for Great Americans brought together a host of important participants to vote on the greatest Americans of all time. This coincided with the construction of a building, paid for by NYU, to house statues of the elected "Great Americans". This process would continue thereafter with a vote every 5 years. Numerous accomplished sculptors then were commissioned to design the accompanying medallions, Karl H. Gruppe having designed this one. Among the first Hall of Fame class was John Marshall, arguably the most influential Supreme Court Chief Justice of all time. Only a limited number of each medallion were struck, the majority being in bronze. This medallion is #413 of an unspecified run.

The medallion is in very nice shape, with slight dents along the periphery and some pitting on the edge. All condition issues we have tried to convey in the photos, so please look carefully.
