Description

A true cross-section cut through an ancient tree, this polished petrified wood slab preserves the complete anatomy of its subject, from the original bark cortex along the outer edge to the deep heartwood at its center. The presence of the intact bark rim is a significant find, confirming this is a full radial slice through the original trunk and giving a genuine sense of the scale of the living tree it once was.

The polished face reveals deep chocolate and near-black tones with radiating grain lines still legible across millions of years, the wood's cellular structure mineralized in extraordinary detail. To the side, a dramatic agate and chalcedony pocket blooms in soft grey, framed by vivid bands of rust, burnt orange, and cream, where silica-rich groundwater once filled natural voids and crystallized into something extraordinary.

The unpolished edge tells its own story, original wood grain runs visibly through the full thickness in parallel striations of brown, gold and rust, a cross-section of deep time you can read like a page.

This piece carries a vintage collection label numbered 2255, indicating formal accession into an established mineral collection. Old collection pieces with documented numbering are increasingly valued by serious collectors.

Locality is assumed to be either Southwestern or Northwestern United States as it was acquired from a larger mineral collection primarily of specimens from the USA.
