In 1943, Abbott Laboratories (a manufacturer of medical supplies) hired various artists to spend time among United States military medical staff to record their efforts in World War II. Through these artists' works we get an authentic look into the heroic deeds of multitudes of those who served in the armed forces. "Flight From Pain" is a charcoal on paper drawing by Kerr Eby depicting wounded soldiers boarding a transport airplane for further medical treatment. Kerr Eby (1889-1946) studied at Pratt Institute and the Art Students League in New York. Eby is best known for his depictions of battle in the first and second world wars. Eby's works are featured in numerous museums around the world.
