Description

An interesting specimen of chiastolite with two sawed ends of the crystal not polished.

Chiastolite is a variety of andalusite, an aluminum silicate mineral formed under low-pressure, high-temperature metamorphic conditions. The characteristic black cross, or chiastós (Greek for “cross”), appears when sections of graphite or carbon inclusions are trapped within the mineral’s crystal lattice. These specimens are often found in metamorphic rocks such as slate and schist.

Comes with plastic thumbnail perky box.
