A vintage Wilke NYC estate briar pipe in beautiful, lightly used condition. This rare piece is carved in an Oom Paul shape, a rarity for the legendary Madison Avenue tobacconist, which typically focused on straight shapes. Adding to its collectibility, the shank features the scarce "WILKE N.Y.C." straight-line nomenclature completely omitting the traditional "E." initial. This piece was manufactured during a specific window between the late 1940s and early 1950s and was recently uncovered as part of a single-owner estate collection.. Keeping with Wilke family tradition, the briar features a natural, unpainted smooth finish that highlights the stunning grain of the wood. The stamping is crisp and deep. The pipe shows minor signs of use. A phenomenal, centerpiece-worthy acquisition with wonderful provenance for the serious collector of mid-century American, and especially New York City tobacciana.
